A seminar with lasting practical benefits!
“I’ve attended many seminars over my more than 20 years as a manager. And I have to admit that I’m very skeptical of personality models. But this PCM seminar made me aware of things about myself and my communication style that I simply hadn’t seen before. What really convinced me was how practical it is: Ever since I stopped asking questions of one of my employees and instead encouraged him to reflect, I’ve seen entirely new qualities in him! PCM is by far the best seminar I’ve ever attended,” says the head of several IT teams in an insurance-related IT department.
Fortunately, our PCM-certified trainers receive this kind of feedback time and again. To verify whether these effects are indeed long-lasting, we surveyed 539 participants and coachees. And the results exceeded even our expectations:
- 79% of respondents report using PCM frequently or sometimes to consciously shape their communication process with others (n = 483).
- 75% of respondents use at least one of the PCM concepts once a week (n = 469).
If we take a closer look at those participants who actively use individual PCM concepts, we find that they use
- between 30 and 40 percent of each (!) of the PCM concepts taught several times a week, and
- 10–30% of PCM users actually use these concepts on a daily basis.
Now let’s take a critical look at the “seminar effect,” whereby three to four weeks after the seminar, the knowledge and willingness to apply what was learned often drop to nearly zero. How does this play out in PCM seminars and PCM coaching sessions?
What makes our survey unique is that we didn’t interview participants or coachees who had just come out of a seminar or PCM debriefing session feeling enthusiastic. We asked people who first experienced PCM two or more years ago and who say they still use it. But how often do they use it? Their answers pleasantly exceeded even our expectations:
- Two-thirds still use these communication channels (n = 104) and
- 58% of those with psychological needs (n = 84) experience them at least once a week in their daily lives.
PCM is, therefore, used extensively over the years. We are delighted to support our clients and coachees in this process.
