The Science Behind PCM

  • Based on extensive qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Used by 1.8 million people every day and regularly validated by scientific studies.
  • Used by NASA and organizations worldwide.

Just imagine that differences in communication are not a source of distress, but rather a source of strength.
That you understand what lies behind certain behaviors and know how to adapt to them.

The Process Communication Model® is an internationally recognized model that helps you recognize and leverage communication differences. You’ll learn what you need to function at your best and how to bring out the best in yourself and others.

The Science of Effective Communication

The American psychologist Dr. Taibi Kahler developed the Process Communication Model®. As a researcher in the field of transactional analysis, he discovered predictable patterns of stress in human behavior and identified what we need to reach our full potential. Building on this, he succeeded in defining six personality types that we all possess. These help us predict our own behavior and that of others, avoid misunderstandings, and thus make a real difference every day.

From Space to Global Success

PCM was launched in the 1970s, when Dr. Taibi Kahler applied the groundbreaking findings from his personality research to assist NASA. NASA’s psychiatrist asked Kahler for help in selecting the best teams of astronauts for space missions—and this selection process proved successful. In 1982, Kahler validated the questionnaire on which the process was based and further developed it into the Process Communication Model®. The core of his approach: Don’t pigeonhole people, but rather recognize, respect, and make use of their differences.

Today, Kahler is Honorary Chairman of Kahler Communications Inc., the organization that manages and further develops the Process Communication Model® worldwide. The model is now used in 60 countries by organizations such as Pixar, IKEA, LVMH, Adobe, L’Oréal, and Michelin for leadership and team development—as well as by teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals in their daily practice.

More than 6,200 trainers and coaches worldwide are now PCM-certified. Over 1.8 million people are already using the model’s concrete practical guidance to make a difference in their interactions and collaboration every day.
